HEADGAMES THE HERO’S JOURNEY
Your Adventure Awaits
Once there, the hero is continually tested meeting both allies and enemies, typically having to eventually face his or her greatest fear. Once faced, the hero receives a reward and after a series of trials and ultimate success, the hero returns home…
The Hero’s Journey is a narrative pattern that appears in myth, storytelling, drama, religious ritual, and psychological development.
The journey, identified by Joseph Campbell, an American scholar, describes the typical adventure of the archetype known as The Hero, the person who goes out and achieves great deeds on behalf of the tribe, group, or civilization.
The Hero begins in what is called the “ordinary world”.
Uneasy, uncomfortable or unaware; the hero’s current life is pulling him or her in different directions, causing stress. Then, the hero senses a “call to adventure”, to go off in search of a way to transform the “ordinary world” for the better. At first, the hero refuses to heed the call but meets with a mentor who equips him or her with a source of courage and wisdom.
The hero commits to leaving the ordinary world and enters the unfamiliar.
Once there, the hero is continually tested meeting both allies and enemies, typically having to eventually face his or her greatest fear. Once faced, the hero receives a reward and eventually after a series of trials and ultimate success, the hero returns home transformed, now having the power to transform the “ordinary world”.
So what does the Hero’s Journey have to do with entrepreneurs in microbusiness? The fact is, as entrepreneurs, we are heroes (or at least I believe we need to begin looking at ourselves as such). We are constantly on a journey creating, developing, and sustaining our microbusinesses.
We have been called to bring our product and/or service forth. At the same time, whether we realize it or not, we are transforming ourselves by facing our fears, meeting our challenges, and creating something that will serve our clients and make the status quo better, transforming our “ordinary world”.
My role as a monthly contributor for MB2MB, is to journey along with you as one of your allies, introducing you to creative tools, innovative ideas, and in-depth resources to assist you in developing a more defined sense of self as an entrepreneur, more courage to meet your challenges and concerns, and more strategic direction and clarity so that your microbusiness can continue to become even more successful and profitable.
So, I invite you to begin looking at yourself like the hero you are, own it, and realize your journey in the land of microbusiness entrepreneurship is an adventure, a continual process of trials and successes. And wherever you find yourself on that journey; beginning, middle or end, know that MB2MB is here each month to help you look at where you are and help you navigate toward where you want to be.
