Meet die-hard Minnesota Vikings fan, Ben Theis.
Over the years Ben has been featured in countless articles and television appearances about the Vikings, actually landing a job with them as Facility & Operations Assistant after earning his degree in Sports Marketing and Business from Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Ben’s career also included 360 Sports, Target and Google as Local Partnership Manager where he became known for his Google and website expertise, a mastery that he continues to share through workshops and classes.
In 2012 Theis turned down a job to go to San Francisco with Google, to pursue his dream of starting Skol Marketing. Ben knew he could help microbusinesses and nonprofits get found online using his inside knowledge of SEO, SEM and social media.
Like many, he self-funded his startup and has since grown his following and client list while continuing to give back through his love of sports. For over a decade he has been a coach, unified player, volunteer, camp counselor, and mentor with Special Olympics Minnesota.
On a more personal note, Ben has two pugs named Mango and Rigby. A second wedding anniversary in June. And he loves the T.V. show Friends—owns all 10 seasons and can quote nearly every line.
His inspiration? His family of entrepreneurs. Ben enjoys shows like Shark Tank that highlight people taking chances and going for it. The best part? Loving what he does, being his own boss and setting his own schedule, although he agrees it’s harder than people think.
It is not just work two hours a day and take off as much time as you want. There are countless days where all you do is work to get a project done or to catch up. He sometimes works from home but finds coworking is the best solution as it helps him be more productive.
Ben’s hope for the previous generation is that they continue to learn and embrace technology!
